Crown reduction reduces the height and/or spread of the crown of a tree, keeping it safe, tidy, manageable and in keeping with its surroundings. We do this by cutting back to live growth points whilst maintaining the tree’s natural shape as far as possible.
Why have this done?
Crown reduction is often used when a tree has grown too large for its permitted space. It is preferred to topping (cutting the top off) because it results in a more natural appearance, increases the time before pruning is needed again and minimises stress to the tree.
